Jim is one of the greatest
and most successful pipe band leading drummers to date. The high levels of
excellence achieved by Jim do not stop at the drum corps; Jim is the most
successful drummer to have won the World Solo Drumming Championship, being
crowned world champion on no less than 16
occasions.
Outwith the band, Jim also teaches all over
the world at seminars and schools. Presently, Jim is lecturing pipe band
snare drumming for the degree course in Scottish Music at the Royal School
Academy of Music & Drama in Glasgow. His tuition is always in demand in
overseas countries. So much so, that the influence Jim has abroad can be
seen in his drum corps;
his past pupils have moved from Australia,
Canada,
Denmark and the USA to
play in the corps. Jim also has his own drumming
supplies company
Jim Kilpatrick
Percussion.
On 31 December, 2003, Jim was named in the Queen's New Year Honours List
as an MBE in recognition of his services to music.
Jim currently plays the Jim Kilpatrick
Percussion KP2
stick and Pearl
Pipe
Band Series drums with Remo CyberMax heads, as does
The House of Edgar Shotts & Dykehead Pipe Band drum
corps.
