Since Pipe Major Robert
Mathieson has been in charge of the band, he has always managed to keep us
in the top 6 of the Champion of Champions table and in the 1994 season, he
won his first World
Championship, winning both sections of the competition being Medley
and March, Strathspey and Reel. This was another first for the band as we
were the only band to have achieved this.
Robert is also an
accomplished soloist and composer for the
Highland Bagpipe, with several successful books and recordings to
his name. The recordings Grace Notes, Ebb-Tide and The Big Birl portray
pipe music being played alongside a variety of other instruments. Grace
Notes
received a silver disk for sales achieved in the United Kingdom and is the
only solo piping recording ever to have done so.
The band aside, Robert also adjudicates at competitions, performs in
concert, teaches foreign bands and runs his own pipe band supplies
business known as ‘The Pipe Box’ in Hamilton &
Aberdeen. |
